NFL: Week 6 Preview

The Week 6 matchups you can exploit, and the ones you should avoid. Check back on Sunday morning for up to the minute injury information and lineup recommendations.

Ten Fantasy Friendly Matchups

Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook at New York Jets
The Jets rank 25th in the league in both pass and run defense and 29th in scoring defense, making this duo especially dangerous coming off a bye week. All bets are off for that group of Philly wide receivers, but McNabb and Westbrook will have the big days you drafted them for.

Willis McGahee vs. St. Louis
The Rams give up a lot of points, including the most rushing TDs in the NFL, so McGahee is likely to score his first 6 points of the season. The nature of the game won't be pretty, with the Rams unable to move the ball and the Ravens unable to move it through the air. Look for the Ravens D to keep the team in position to grind it out on the ground.

Larry Johnson vs. Cincinnati
Johnson owners, get ready to hit the sell button. As soon as he racks up 100+ yards and a TD against the Bengals, find someone who's convinced that LJ is all the way back and make a deal. You'll probably take a loss on your initial investment, but you're still better off getting a piece of a different offense.

Brian Griese vs. Minnesota
The Vikings' league leading rush defense will force Chicago to be one-dimensional, giving Griese some value in what will be a pretty ugly game. If Griese can hit the yardage mark the Vikes have been allowing (267 yards/game) and find big bodied TEs Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen for a couple of scores, he'll be worthy of a start in most formats.

Ronnie Brown at Cleveland
Only the Lions allow more points per game than the Browns, and Brown is the biggest (and maybe only) scoring threat Miami's got. He has been on fire the last three games, racking up 571 total yards (360 rush, 211 receive) and five TDs (4 rush, 1 receive), even though Miami found a way to spoil his big efforts each time. Both trends continue this week.

Jason Wright vs. Miami
Miami is soft against the run in several regards. 1.) They allow the sixth-highest yards per carry average (4.5) in the NFL; 2.) They are tied for last in the league with eight rushing touchdowns allowed; and 3.) Opponents attempt more runs against Miami (38.4/game) than any other team in the NFL. A warm body will due here, and Wright qualifies, assuming Jamal Lewis does sit out.

Kurt Warner vs. Carolina
The "Kurt Warner Risk Factor" is low this week, as Carolina has lacked the playmaking ability to give the former grocery bagger problems. What I'm talking about is turnovers, be it fumbles or interceptions. The Panthers have just two sacks and two interceptions on the year, ranking them 31st and tied for 31st in the NFL, respectively. The lack of pressure makes Warner a good play at home in his first start.

Derrick Mason vs. St. Louis
Mr. Reception leads the NFL with 44 catches and has a season-low total of seven receptions in the season opener at Cincinnati. He's not exactly an explosive end zone threat, so this recommendation is directed primarily in those in points per reception leagues. The yardage total figures to be in the 80s, and his strengths match up well with the Rams' weaknesses in coverage.

Dwayne Bowe vs. Cincinnati
Bowe has been an absolute draft day gem, both in real life and in fantasy. Even with mediocre play from the quarterback position, Bowe has found the end zone three times and performed capably in a difficult season-opening stretch against Houston, Chicago, Minnesota, San Diego and Jacksonville. The going gets a little easier this week against the Bengals.

Bryant Johnson vs. Carolina
Larry Fitzgerald is the easy choice here, but Johnson is also a good pick against the Panthers. Arizona figures to air it out upwards of 40 times on Sunday, and without Anquan Boldin, Johnson should hit the 80 yard mark and have a decent chance at finding paydirt.

Other Friendly Matchups
Tennessee D/ST vs. Tampa Bay - No Tampa running game should allow the league's best passing efficiency defense to keep Jeff Garcia under wraps.

QB Matt Hasselbeck vs. New Orleans - Vet should be able to sit back and pick apart a suspect New Orleans D.

WR Torry Holt at Baltimore - Always a must-start anyway, don't be scared off by the Baltimore D -- it's middle of the pack in terms of passing defense.

TE Greg Olsen vs. Minnesota - It's early and he's young, but Olsen looks like the best playmaker the Bears have.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Houston - His Week 5 performance should have been encouraging enough to guarantee a start, but Fred Taylor's questionable status is a nice bonus.

RB Brandon Jacobs at Atlanta - Too big and physical for a soft Falcons' D, look for 2 TDs and 60 percent of the Giants' carries.

K Shayne Graham at Kansas City - Cincy offense should move the ball, but look for the Chiefs to clamp down in the red zone.

WR Bobby Engram vs. New Orleans - It took a nasty Pittsburgh defense to keep Engram under 50 receiving yards for the first time last week.

I'm Wary Of ...
QB Cleo Lemon - Facing the Browns or not, I'm not buying a mediocre quarterback with a suspect supporting cast making his first career start.

QB Brett Favre vs. Washington - The Packers offense completely lost its rhythm in the second half last week, and the Redskins' pressure makes me nervous about a repeat.

QB Chad Pennington vs. Philadelphia - First comes a subpar performance against the Eagles, then the boo birds in the Meadowlands, then backup duties until further notice.

All Packers, Raiders and Titans backs - Too much uncertainty and not enough upside to consider starting any of them.

RB Cedric Benson vs. Minnesota - Benson averages a skimpy 3.0 ypc average, which is half a yard more than the Vikes' front line allows.

RB Ahman Green at Jacksonville - Green is allegedly healthy, but look for other options than a return on the road against physical Jacksonville.

RB Adrian Peterson at Chicago - Look for eight in the box and a dare to Tarvaris Jackson to beat the Bears with his arm.

QB Tony Romo vs. New England - He's earned the benefit of the doubt as a must-start, but New England is a tough foe when you're looking to bounce back from a six-turnover outing.

Falcons passing game vs. New York - Sans left tackle Wayne Gandy, QB Joey Harrington is having nightmares about the Giants' 12 sack performance in Week 4.
