| Jan. 17, 2008 - Welcome to our version of postseason fantasy football awards, where a player's performance, relative to preseason expectations, is what counts. Preseason value vs. postseason value is considered, but it's determined by more than comparing fantasy points. We gauged impact, even if it weren't felt for the entire season (see: free agent RBs Earnest Graham and Ryan Grant). Consistency and health were also keys. |
QB: Tom Brady, New England Patriots There were expectations of Brady - he was an early third round draft choice - but his impact, relative to those expectations, was still far and away the biggest in fantasy football. Runner-Up: Brett Favre, Green Bay. RB: Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year had some ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the highest scoring running back outside of first-round draft choices LaDainian Tomlinson, Brian Westbrook and Joseph Addai. RB: Jamal Lewis, Cleveland Browns There's no possible way that fantasy owners whole-heartedly bought into Lewis come draft time. We called him one of our preseason sleepers, but still never found a bargain bin price that suited us in drafts. Runners-Up: Clinton Portis, Washington; Ryan Grant, Green Bay WR: Randy Moss, New England Patriots Same deal as Lewis. In theory, Moss was an outstanding value pick, but it took a great deal of faith to draft him coming off his unmotivated, lackluster last season in Oakland. WR: Braylon Edwards, Cleveland Browns Also the same deal as Lewis, except in the sense of guilt by association with the Cleveland Browns. Edwards was especially difficult to predict, given Romeo Crennel's preseason indecision over a starting quarterback. Runners-Up: Wes Welker, New England; Brandon Marshall, Denver TE: Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys It was a close race for top-scoring tight end honors, but Witten, on average the ninth tight end taken in fantasy drafts, checked in at No. 1 with 96 catches, 1,145 yards and 7 touchdowns. Runner-Up: Dallas Clark, Indianapolis D/ST: Seattle Seahawks There were more consistent defenses, for sure, but Seattle was the only team among the top five fantasy scoring defenses to go largely undrafted. Runner-Up: San Diego Chargers K: Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers This was a tough call. Crosby likely sat on your waiver wire for the duration of the season, including his red-hot final nine weeks, but finished with more points than any other kicker in fantasy. Runner-Up: Rob Bironas, Tennessee |
