NBA: Kings Back To Full Health

Jan. 23, 2008 - The Sacramento Kings have gotten back to full health with the returns of stars Ron Artest, Mike Bibby and Kevin Martin. The news was undeniably good last night as the Kings trounced the Nets 128-94 in Artest's return from an elbow injury.

But what has benefited Sacramento fans has troubled fantasy owners, especially those who got on board with John Salmons and Beno Udrih.

The win over New Jersey was the first time that the injured trio was back in the starting lineup together. Artest and Bibby both came off the bench in wins over Detroit and Indiana before starting alongside Martin against the Nets. With their returns, Salmons and Udrih were both sent back to the bench.

Salmons, who had totaled just 13 points in his previous three games, tweaked his ankle in the first quarter and could not return. Udrih played well with 14 points in 18 minutes, but he can't be expected to keep hitting 5-of-5 field goals, 2-of-2 three-pointers and 2-of-2 free throws on a given night.

Salmons is a quality NBA scorer who has thrived when given opportunities to carry the load. Those days are gone as he falls back to seventh or eighth in the Kings' rotation. He's lacking on the defensive end of the floor, which makes his demotion easy, but he could move up in the pecking order by way of injury or rumored deals involving Artest and Bibby.

At least one of Sacramento's two stars figures to be on the move before the Feb. 21 deadline, which would be a direct benefit to Salmons and Udrih. Udrih moves back into the starting lineup if Bibby departs, but it's less of a sure thing for Salmons if Artest gets dealt.
