By Dustin Hockensmith Fantasy Sports 101 Basketball Feb. 16, 2008 - The Sacramento Kings agreed to trade point guard Mike Bibby to the Hawks for four players and a 2008 second-round draft pick, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Saturday. Bibby is set to join the Hawks in Los Angeles on Monday and likely suit up when they play the Lakers on Tuesday night. Atlanta and Sacramento are set to play on Wednesday at Arco Arena. For Bibby, the Kings received forwards Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright, point guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue, and the Hawks' second-round selection in 2008. This is great news for Johnson, who can handle the ball less for the Hawks and start getting into better positions to score. His fantasy game could take a mild hit in the assists category, but the expected increase in field goal percentage and decrease in turnovers more than cancel it out. Since the Hawks, currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, improve a great deal, Bibby's arrival is good news for all. The next benefactor would probably be rookie point guard Acie Law IV, who gets a more prominent backup role and can see more consistent playing time. He'll come off the bench to spell either Johnson or Bibby. All four of the players the Kings received have expiring contracts, the Sacramento Bee reported, so they will be free and clear to chase a pool of unrestricted free agents that could include Elton Brand, Allen Iverson, Jermaine O'Neal, Baron Davis and Corey Maggette. In Sam Amick's blog, Kings president Geoff Petrie seemed excited about giving Williams, the fifth pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, an opportunity to play. Petrie said of Williams, "We’re hoping he becomes part of a younger frontcourt we can go forward with on some level, but he hasn’t played enough yet." Beno Udrih should take on starting point guard duties, with Johnson and Lue serving as the two backups. Watch how guard Quincy Douby, the Kings' first-round pick in 2006, fits into the new situation. Figure he and Williams both get more extended auditions the rest of the way. |
